We have been enjoying a long, warm autumn this year as you will have seen out of the best sash windows Suffolk has to offer, but it is coming to an end.
An arctic blast is expected to hit the UK this week, and bring the first frosts with it. This means it is time for you to do the last of the jobs in the garden before the weather stops you from being able to get out there.
Weeds still grow throughout autumn and you shouldn’t turn a blind eye to them and just hope the frosts kill them. Annual weeds tackled now will not come up in the spring which will give you a lot more time then to get other jobs off to a good start whether that is laying a new lawn or getting some direct sown seeds started. Act now to gain time later.
When you have finally managed to get your soil weed free then make sure you get the soil as well prepped as possible by digging it over. If you have very heavy or clay soils then digging now will expose the large clods to the frost, which will break them down and make the soil more manageable in the spring.
And of course, you need to get your windows cleaned so you can enjoy the fruits of your labour. To ensure any structures in your garden or the part of your house facing the garden are as secure as possible clean the outside of surfaces and clear gutters so any blockages caused by falling leaves don’t cause any bigger problem this winter.
