While it can be very difficult keeping on top of all the latest trends where interior design is concerned and you perhaps don’t want to spend all your time redecorating just to ensure that your home stays looking fashionable, it certainly can’t hurt to check out the latest looks and styles doing the rounds for a bit of inspiration.
The good folk over at online pinboard Pinterest have just revealed their top interiors trends for the coming 12 months, which may well give you all sorts of fun ideas if you do have plans in place to redo your home in 2019.
Firstly, searches for mustard yellow have increased by 45 per cent on the site, a good indication that this is going to be big news colour-wise in the next year or so. What’s great about mustard as a choice for home décor, no matter what part of the house you use it in, is that it’s quite classic and timeless, so it won’t date… which means you won’t feel the need to redecorate any time soon.
One interesting emerging trend is the use of fabric in an artistic way, with many now wrapping the walls of their homes in textured materials. This might not work well in the kitchen because it’s likely to be a bit of a fire hazard, but you could easily do this elsewhere in your house.
Those of you who live in flats without much outdoor space are likely to interested in one style idea gaining traction at the moment – the introduction of vertical gardens at home. You could do this outside, of course, but it might be nice to interpret the look inside as well – you can find a tutorial on how to achieve it yourself on interiors stylist Luke Wells’ YouTube channel.
Anyone out there planning on repainting in the next few months might perhaps want to consider wallpaper instead, as searches for bold print wallpaper have gone up by an impressive 401 per cent. Think tropical leaves and bright prints to hit the look head on.
As for new kitchens themselves, we predict that industrial finishes will still be big news in 2019, while brushed brass is likely to take the top spot where metallics are concerned. This would be a great choice for fixtures and fittings, always a quick win where redecorating is concerned.
If you’re working to a strict budget but still want to make it look as though you’ve made some changes at home, focusing on smaller aspects of the home like your plug sockets, door handles and so on can really make a big difference to the feel of your house.
