We live in a Victorian terrace in West London (Chiswick). We recently moved in and find the aircraft noise (we're under Heathrow flight path) very noisy. We have wooden sash windows. I'd like to replace them with something that retains the original look but reduces noise (as well as being more energy efficient) Noise reduction is my main concern.

I need to replace my sash windows. I had them temporarily repaired a couple of years ago but they are very old and are now becoming loose and causing heat loss.
The street where I live has been designated a conservation area which means I have to replace the windows in a similar style. However bearing in mind the new energy efficiency requirements I wanted to find out if it is possible to have double glazed sash windows which retain the same
appearance? There was secondary glazing in the flat when I moved in but I had to remove this as it made the flat very dark.
