Irene asked us

live in a first floor flat in NW London and need to replace my sash windows.

I had them temporarily repaired a couple of years ago but they are very old and are now becoming loose and causing heat loss.

The street where I live has been designated a conservation area which means I have to replace the windows in a similar style. However bearing in mind the new energy efficiency requirements I wanted to find out if it is possible to have double glazed sash windows which retain the same appearance?

There was secondary glazing in the flat when I moved in but I
had to remove this as it made the flat very dark.

Mr Rose, Managing Director replied:

Dear Irene,

Thank you for your comment which is particularly interesting because many
homeowners now have the same concerns.

It is very possible to have double-glazed timber windows which look so much like the originals that they are allowed to be installed in conservation areas.

The sealed unit glazing, ours is actually ultra discreet triple effect, will conserve energy, keep you secure and will also help to compensate for the loss of the secondary glazing with unwanted sound from outside.

All our windows carry a British Fenestration Ratings Council energy efficiency certificate and we are the only company with this on traditional timber sash windows.

We would need to inspect on site to give you a proper Best Advice Report, which is free and without obligation.

Yours sincerely

John Rose
