Case Study: Janice

“What a difference these new sash windows have made to our home: it’s much less draughty and noisy when the wind blows, and it feels warmer. We’re delighted.”

When Janice decided it was time to replace the timber windows in her home, Box Sash’s beautiful products, affordable prices, and no-pressure service won her over.

The single-glazed sash windows in Janice’s Victorian terraced home had come to the end of their useful lifespan: they were draughty, inefficient, and noisy in bad weather.

Janice recalls:

“It’s a small house, with a small bay window at the front, a sash at the back, and another two sash windows upstairs. The windows were still in reasonable condition, but they were so draughty – we had to stick pegs in the frames to stop them banging in bad weather.”

During previous work on the house, double-glazed uPVC windows had been installed in the kitchen and bathroom. While mostly functional, the plastic windows had started to deteriorate, and stood out as a modern addition to Janice’s home.

This time around, she was keen to find a solution more in keeping with the period style of the property. Traditional timber windows appealed, but Janice suspected cost would be a major issue.

Searching online, Janice came across Box Sash’s website. Impressed by the number of positive customer reviews, she arranged a free design visit by one of the company’s expert surveyors, who revealed that traditional timber sash windows were far more affordable than she had initially thought.

Janice arranged to have her downstairs bay and sash windows replaced. New, energy efficient windows were installed, and any rotten timber was removed.

Janice commented:

“The new windows didn’t cost as much as we’d thought they might; we also hadn’t realised we could have our new windows put into the existing frames, which made it less expensive.

“To save on costs, we decided to have the downstairs windows done first. But when we did, they looked so much better that we wished we’d had the whole lot done! If you’re worrying about cost, I’d recommend getting all your windows done at once if you can.”

“What a difference these new sash windows have made to our home: it’s much less draughty and noisy when the wind blows, and it feels warmer. We’re delighted.”

Before and during the whole installation process, Box Sash’s friendly, no-pressure approach put Janice at ease. Talking about the free home design visit, she said:

“We liked the fact that we weren’t pressured into buying anything. The salesman was knowledgeable and informative, but left the decision very much up to us. There’s no hard sell, and he was very clear about costs. Janice was pleased to note that each stage of her installation, spaced around a year apart, took just a single day, leaving her home quieter, warmer and with considerably more kerb appeal than before:

“We were surprised what a difference these new sash windows made to our home: it’s much less draughty and noisy when the wind blows, and it feels warmer. It also looks much smarter – the windows look fantastic and we’re delighted.”
