Why keep these old fashioned style hinged windows ?
IIt’s all about original features. We assume that you have bought a character house because you like the style.
Well the windows are probably the most important features to keep in the original design in order to maintain
that style. As you can now obtain these windows with all the modern benefits, it is extremely prudent to keep them.
Why timber ?
Timber is the best material for character, warmth, comfort, durability,
window construction, looks, practicality, heat retention - need we go on ?
Why use hardwood ?
Softwood needs to be treated with chemical preservative. No-one really knows
the long term effects of this is a domestic environment. Why take a chance when
beautiful hardwood is so readily available from sustainable sources ?
Can they be double-glazed ?
Yes, and in keeping with all the original features - even leaded lights.CLICK HERE.
Will they be secure ?
We fit a comprehensive range of high quality British Standard locks. The integral double-glazing makes
them extremely difficult to break into. They are also glazed from the inside, which means the glazing cannot
be removed from the outside. CLICK HERE.
Will traditional casements help maintain
the value to my house ?
Period and character houses hold their prices better than modern ones. In today’s market, keeping up maintenance in a profession way, and re-placing modern features with ones authentic to the original design, is the way to maximise value.
Are these old style windows guaranteed ?
Yes, for your lifetime. The first ten years after installation are covered by Lloyds of London insurance (included in the price). CLICK HERE.
Will I have to maintain them ?
Yes, if you want them to last many, many years. But it’s very easy.
Will I have to paint them ?
The paint we use is micro-porous, i.e. it soaks into the timber and lets it breath.
You can go over it as many times as you like without scraping or burning off. A full
coating once every seven years to ten years, but inspect yearly. All really easy.
Will replacement windows look the same as the originals ?
Yes, right down to the timber mouldings and glazing bars. CLICK HERE.
What if the originals have been removed ?
We will look at the neighbouring houses/streets and research what was the originals. There may be a little
extra work fitting. Our surveyor can advise CLICK HERE.
